Perfume Shopify Brand Case Study: £0 to 7-figures in under 24 months

A fresh Shopify domain in a brutally competitive UK category — no content, no links, no social proof — taken to nearly a million organic clicks and seven figures in revenue through fundamentals, not shortcuts.

A 4-minute walkthrough of the strategy, in my own words.

Starting authority and content

The starting point

Fresh domain, zero authority

Rebel Aromas launched into a category where established players spend millions on paid acquisition and own the branded search landscape. The site had no content, no links, no reviews and no history — the hardest possible position from which to compete organically.

Within 30 days we had traction and first-page rankings for competitive head terms. The reason wasn't a trick. It was research done properly before anything was built, then executed in a strict order.

The work

Four moves, in order

The sequence matters more than any individual tactic.

Step one

Topical map built from real demand

Before a single page was published, I mapped what customers were actually searching for. Competitor analysis, Google Trends, Ahrefs and Semrush data all fed into one topical map — then my Shopify framework turned it into a concrete plan: which pages to build, where they sit in the navigation, and how each one is structured.

  • Competitor, Trends and keyword research combined
  • Custom page architecture and navigation plan
  • Content structure defined per page type
Step two

Technical foundations

Shopify ships with predictable technical debt. We fixed crawling from the ground up: stripped URL parameters, resolved the canonical issue that duplicates every product URL across collections, cleared the long tail of crawl bugs, and implemented proper schema so search engines could read the catalogue correctly.

  • Crawl and indexation cleanup
  • Parameter and duplicate-URL handling
  • Canonical fixes across collection and product paths
  • Product, review and organisation schema
Step three

Google Merchant Center free clicks

Organic shopping listings are the channel most brands leave switched off. We got the feed clean and eligible, and Google Merchant Center went on to deliver thousands of free clicks — revenue that costs nothing per click and compounds alongside the paid programme.

  • Feed health and product data quality
  • Free organic shopping listings live
  • Thousands of zero-cost clicks via Google Merchant Center
Step four

Authority and digital PR

A fresh domain has no trust to trade on. Working with the team at Linkify (shout out to Chris and Nick), we earned genuinely high-quality placements — Entrepreneur, BBC, The Sun, Refinery — which supplemented the on-site work and let the topical map actually rank against the incumbents.

  • High-authority editorial placements
  • Link profile built to support the topical map
  • Compounded with content and technical work
The outcome

Nearly a million clicks, seven figures

In under 24 months, organic search took Rebel Aromas from zero to almost a million clicks and past seven figures in revenue — supplementing paid, email and social rather than replacing them. It's one of the results I'm most proud of, precisely because there was no existing authority to lean on.

There is no silver bullet and no set-and-forget. Keep researching your customers: what they type into the search box, what's trending, where they go on site. Every couple of months, run a navigation detox — which pages drive revenue, which are redundant — and make the change.
